“NYT WORDLE REVIEW”

Illustration (2024)
For the month of July The New York Times invited me to illustrate their Wordle Review – a place for the community to talk about their daily approach to solve the puzzle, share their recent thoughts and more. Art Director Katherine Lee and I discussed 3 concepts and decided to go with the theme of Evolution.
We use words to describe our world, our history and place in it. All of this comes together in this small game and the community around it. To connect the illustrations for each week we decided to use one element and one color from each previous illustration and let it reoccur in a different context, starting with a Big Bang. The last illustration forms a summation of all previous ones, just like we built an archive of our history through stories, pictures, words, books and today through digitalisation and the web. But the elements of the previous illustrations look slightly different here, bearing the question how accurate our ideas of the past are and how much truth will remain in a world that will be led by Artificial Intelligence.
